Train Engine

Toy train engine. Complete train set consists of an Engine, Tender, Flat Car, Passenger Car and caboose all made from a single 2x4. For the Engine you will need 2ea. 1 1/4" wheels, 2ea. 2" wheels, 1/4" and 3/8" dowel.

Designed in Carbide Create build 836.
Stock prep:
Cut a 2x4 into 4 pieces 24" long.
Rip and plane the shortest piece on edge to yield a 3/4" x 3 1/2" x ~19" and 3/8" x 3 1/2" x ~19"
Rip and plane a 24" piece into two pieces 1/2" x 3 1/2" x 24"
Rip and plane a 24" piece into one 1/2" and two 3/8" x 3 1/2" x 24"
Rip and plane the last 24" piece into two 3/8" and one 1/4" x 3 1/2" x 24"
Dowel sizes:
2ea. 1/4" x 1/2"L, 1ea. 1/4" x 3/4"L, 1ea. 1/4" x 1 1/4"L 1ea. 1/4" x 2 3/4"L,
1ea. 3/8" x 3"L
Assembly:
Use 1/4" x 3/4"L dowel as alignment aide to glue 3 boiler parts together.
Use 2ea. 1/4" x 1/2"L dowel as alignment aide to glue two chassis half together.
Boiler assembly can now be glued to the chassis assembly using alignment notch for correct forward placement.
Engine sides and bulkhead can now be glued in place flush to the boiler.
The roof is added using alignment notch for proper placement.
Add the axel and wheels.
I used a small peg as a smoke stack.
