I used solid maple planed down to 3/8". The 15 degree bevel was made by marking a line 1/2" up and sanding with a belt sander or with a table saw set at 15 degrees. I sanded with 150 and 220 grit sandpaper and then wet and dried both pieces to raise the grain and did final sanding with 320 grit. I sealed it with a 1:5 Beeswax/Mineral oil paste.
